Jim is an American politician, former collegiate wrestler, and also a former collegiate wrestling coach. Early Life & Biography

Jim was born in Campaign County, Ohio, where he was raised at. Jim is the son of John Jordan and Shirley Jordan, his mother. He attended Graham High School, where he wrestled for, and he graduated in 1982. During this period, he won the state championship for four years and compiled a 156-28-1 win-loss record.

He enrolled at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, where he was a two-time NCAA Division 1 wrestling Champion. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics. In 1988 he lost the 57-62 kg featherweight semi-final match at the US Olympic Wrestling trials, which made him not qualify for the Olympic team.

In 2001, he earned a master’s degree in education from Ohio State University in Columbus, and he obtained a J.D degree from Ohio’s capital University of Law. From 1987 he was an assistant coach with Ohio State University wrestling program till 1995.

Jim began his political career when he was first elected to the Ohio General Assembly. In 2006, he won the Republican primary race for the 4th Congressional district of Ohio, where he created the income Tax Reduction Fund that stated any state revenue surpluses to be used to lower the income tax burden on Ohioans rather than for further government spending.

In 2006, he won the Republican primary for the 4th District, and his retirement was announced after 26 year incumbent by Mike Oxley and re-elected in 2008, where he defeated Democrat Mike Carroll 65% to 35% and chaired the Republican Study Committee during the 112th Congress. In 2018, he was defeated by Kevin McCarthy as the House Minority Leader. He received a vote for speaker of the 113th congress from fellow conservative, Tea Party Caucus chairman Tim Huelskamp of Kansas and also two votes for speaker during the114th congress
